Carpet Cleaning FAQ — West Hills, CA
Common questions from homeowners in West Hills and the surrounding area. If your question isn't here, call us and we'll give you a straight answer.
Drying time: how many hours before the room is usable?
Most West Hills homes are dry in 4 to 6 hours. Summer helps here; with humidity under 20 percent during Santa Ana conditions, carpet can be dry in closer to three. Winter storms between November and March slow that down, so we run air movers and ask you to leave the HVAC fan on. You can walk on damp carpet in clean socks right away, but wait until it's fully dry before putting rugs or furniture back down.

What does a cleaning appointment actually look like?
We inspect the carpet with you first and point out traffic lanes, pet areas and anything that may not fully release. Then we vacuum, move what furniture we agreed to move, pretreat the soiled areas and let the product dwell. Hot water extraction follows, done in overlapping passes with heavy dry strokes to pull moisture back out. We groom the pile, set air movers where needed, and walk the rooms with you before we load up.

Hot water extraction, shampoo, dry cleaning. Which one goes on my floor?
Hot water extraction is what we use on the large majority of jobs. It injects heated solution and vacuums it back out with the soil, and it's what Shaw, Mohawk and Stainmaster warranties generally call for. Shampooing agitates a foam into the fibers and suits heavily matted commercial nylon more than a bedroom carpet. Low-moisture dry cleaning uses a compound or encapsulating pad with little water, which we save for wool, delicate Karastan or Masland goods, and situations where the room has to be back in service fast.

What's a realistic cleaning schedule for a house like mine?
Once a year covers a quiet household with no pets. Add kids, a dog, or a hillside lot backing the chaparral and every six to eight months is more honest. Decomposed granite and sandy loam track in constantly out here, and that grit sits at the base of the pile grinding the fibers every time someone walks by. Bedrooms and hallways in these tract homes still hold wall-to-wall carpet, so those are usually the rooms that set the schedule.

How is my quote figured out?
The estimate is free and the quote is firm before anyone touches the carpet. Square footage matters most, then the number of rooms, stairs, how soiled the carpet is, whether pet treatment is needed, and how much furniture has to be moved. Fiber type plays in too, since wool and some Anderson Tuftex constructions need a gentler approach and more time. You get one number up front, and it doesn't change unless you add work.

Do your techs handle the furniture?
Yes, within reason. Sofas, chairs, coffee tables, nightstands and dining sets get moved and set back on blocks or tabs. We leave alone anything that shouldn't be shifted: pianos, large entertainment centers, waterbeds, tall bookcases with the books still in them, and anything with electronics wired into it. Clearing small items and breakables off the floor before we arrive keeps the appointment moving.

Which spots will lift and which ones are staying?
Food spills, drink rings, mud, tracked-in dust and ash, most pet accidents and general traffic soil normally come out. Older urine that reached the pad on slab-on-grade flooring needs subsurface treatment, and even then results depend on how long it sat. Bleach, benzoyl peroxide from acne products, some dyes and plant fertilizer remove the color rather than sit on top of it, so no cleaning brings that back. We tell you at the walkthrough what we expect to fix and what we don't, and dye repair or a patch is the route for permanent damage.

Are the products you use safe with children and animals in the house?
Yes. The solutions we apply are chosen for use in occupied homes, and hot water extraction rinses the vast majority of what we put down back out of the carpet. There's no lingering chemical smell and no residue for a crawling baby or a dog to pick up. We do ask that kids and pets stay off the wet carpet until it's dry, mostly to keep them from tracking soil back over clean fibers.

Can you clean couches, area rugs and tile floors too?
We do. Upholstery is cleaned in place with the fabric identified first, since some pieces need a low-moisture method. Area rugs can be handled on site or picked up for off-site washing when they're wool or hand-knotted. Tile and grout is a common request in West Hills because so many of these homes had the living areas converted to tile, LVP or hardwood in later remodels while the carpet stayed in the bedrooms and halls.

Is there room on the schedule today, and where do you work?
Same-day slots open up regularly, especially if you call in the morning. Our base is West Hills, out at the far west end of the San Fernando Valley inside Los Angeles city limits, at the foot of the Simi Hills and Santa Susana range. We cover the surrounding valley neighborhoods, including the 1980s-90s two-story infill on the hillside edges and the late 1950s through 1970s ranch and split-level tracts. Tell us your cross streets and we'll confirm timing on the call.
